John Lewis, a British chain of high-end department stores, invited me for a makeover using the new Dior Backstage product range. A nice make-up artist invited me to be the first to try out the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation, Prime & Conceal Stick and the Glow Face Palette.
I was very curious to find out more about the new products and see if they would work on my face as well as they worked on Meghan Markle’s. She looked very beautiful on her wedding day and had the most natural make-up. With only the help of the new Dior Backstage collection, her make-up artists created her youthful wedding look.
I can’t wait to share my experience and my thoughts and feelings about the product.
Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation
It comes in a plastic bottle – not in a conventional glass bottle like other foundations of established brands. The foundation is very smooth and not too thick which makes it very easy to apply. I was also impressed at how buildable it is given that the texture is relatively watery. It won’t cover up acne but it will cover up slight impurities and redness.
I asked for a shade slightly lighter than my skin colour. So for me this meant we used shade 1.5N and I absolutely loved how the product felt on my face. The silky matte finish is so lightweight that you will forget you are wearing foundation. I’ve heard that once it was revealed Meghan Markle wore Dior Backstage at her wedding everyone rushed to the shop or online to snap up the entire collection. All products and, especially, the foundation received very positives reviews.
My skin is slightly dry which makes it easier for me to wear this foundation. Those with very oily skin might want to use translucent powder before applying or go for a full coverage foundation. I always apply a primer or moisturiser to prevent my skin from getting too dry.
Protecting your skin from the sun is a number one priority. So make sure to apply a sunscreen or a primer with the SPF factor underneath, since this foundation doesn’t offer a built-in sun protection factor.
What is really great about the Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation is that it sets so quickly and won’t budge when you start applying your concealer, blusher or contour. After my makeover was finished I snapped it up and couldn’t wait to use it the next day.
- Very lightweight
- Relatively buildable given its thin texture
- Looks great on the skin
- Sets very quickly and doesn’t get smudged by other products
- No built-in SPF
- Comes in a plastic bottle which can’t be recycled
- Has a matte finish so doesn’t give much of that natural glow
My make-up artist then used the FIX IT Dior 2-IN-1 Prime & Conceal Stick which I thought was truly amazing. It wasn’t anything like the Charlotte Tilbury concealer that I used before. A lovely solid and dry texture – no risk of caking. The application was very easy and smooth. It didn’t go into the crinkles of my eyes which is normally my main issue with concealers. I definitely recommend this concealer to those who are looking for a very matte and light touch finish.
The make-up artist finished off my look by adding some colour to my cheeks with the Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette. I liked it but didn’t think it was worth purchasing since it wasn’t particularly different to what I was using at the time.
