Bio-Oil Review – The Best Oil for Treating Acne Scars

Bio-Oil review

I started breaking out in my mid-twenties, first on my forehead and then it spread onto my cheeks. This was acne. I didn’t think it would ever happen to me as my skin had always been very smooth and relatively dry. Besides, no one in my family ever had acne. The spots were quite deep and painful. I popped them because it was unbearable seeing the big white bumps on my face. Once I’d popped them they started to bleed and then I could see how deep they were compared to a normal pimple. Sorry for the details.

This made me very uncomfortable, self-conscious and upset. I was trying to find a cure so badly that I tried almost everything that I thought was worth a shot. One of the most helpful products on this acne-tackling journey were 111SKIN Anti-Blemish Tonics, Soveral Skincare Products and of course my new discovery – Bio Oil.

I didn’t know Bio-Oil existed until I saw someone recommending it on Instagram. I don’t believe in paid social media posts but this one was clearly not an advertisement but a genuine recommendation. The blogger was claiming that Bio-Oil helped reduce the visibility of her stretch marks. She also said that it performed real magic on her face and tackled almost any skin impurity. I didn’t hesitate and went onto the internet to check what it was and where I could purchase it. I was very sceptical so I checked what other people said about this ‘magic’ oil.

Bio Oil is a revolutionary product which tackles any skin impurities including scars, stretch marks and teenage growth spurts. It also smooths and improves the appearance of skin complexion. It’s cheaper than the face oils and serums I’ve tried so far (based on the bottle capacity). The smallest bottle of Bio Oil is 60 ml and you can also buy it in a bigger bottle. The product is very accessible and is sold in any high-street drug store. I ordered it from Boots about two months ago and this is by far my most favourite skin oil.

Why Do I Love Bio-Oil?

After the first use my acne scars didn’t look any different but my face felt fresh and hydrated in the morning. Only after the first week I noticed my acne scars became less prominent and significantly shrunk in size. My skin looked and felt a lot more even and smooth. I’ve now used it for over a month and I am really happy with the results. It almost instantly reduces redness and inflammation. It is especially good for those who can’t help popping or picking their spots.

For the best effect, make sure you thoroughly massage the product into your skin focusing on the problem areas. Use it after your night routine just before going bed. During the night, your body naturally boosts blood to your skin to help recover from day to day damage.

So here’s a quick summary of Pros and Cons I discovered while using this product.

Pros:

  • Nice smell
  • Very hydrating – you can ditch your night moisturiser
  • Noticeable results after the first week
  • Reduces redness and inflammation
  • Heals spots and scars while you sleep
  • Key ingredients: Vitamin A&E, Calendula, Lavender, Rosemary and Chamomile oils.
  • The clinical studies have shown a lot of positive results

Cons:

  • Quite greasy
  • Not very absorbent

I don’t recommend using Bio-Oil during the day or applying it under your foundation. Your face will be very shiny and oily. Just use it once a day before bed. It does magic during the night and then you wake up with a repaired and healthy looking complexion. I haven’t tried applying it to my teenage growth spurts which I’ve had since the age of 13. After I’ve seen how much it has improved my post acne scars, I am more than willing to try it on my other problem areas.

Let me know if you have any questions or would like to share your magic tricks tackling post acne scars.
